Welcome to one of my most popular tutorial series, Stitches & Hacks! In this edition of Stitches & Hacks! We are learning the Lazy Daisy Stitch! The first picture (above) is the most common way people learn to do the lazy daisy stitch, and my next posting will be the Hack! that I think is one of the best and fastest ways to achieve this stitch.
A few tips:
Hold excess thread with your non-sewing hand in a rainbow shape above the stitch your making.
Start your next stitch in between your previous one or in the middle of your “pedal” (personal preference, I think it makes it look nicer for smaller flowers).
Mark out the central starting point and tips of all stitches you want to make, for better evening.
REMEMBER! These are only tips, not necessary. Although, the last one I highly recommend.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Come up through your central marking, and back down, slightly to the side of where you came up (make sure you are square with the outer marking). U the excess thread in the rainbow shape above. Refer to steps 1 & 2 in the above picture.
Bring needle up through outer marking, and pull thread tightly against your loop. Make sure you bring your needle up thru the inside of your looped thread. Refer to steps 3-6 in the above picture.
Secure loop down by going back through fabric, over top your loop creating your secure stitch. Refer to steps 7 & 8 in the above picture.
Repeat! You can do as many “pedals/leafs” or stitches as you like. I usually do at least 4-5 for my flowers.
Additional info:
You can fill in your pedal by simply bringing your needle up above your secure stitch and back down, in between or in the middle of your thread at the central marking.
